Make Your Own Sandwich!

We had extra time at home today and were not rushing out of the house ASAP to get somewhere this morning. The kids were really excited to not have to go anywhere. I took advantage of the slower pace to get the kids to help me, though it takes much longer that way. I really want them to see that goes into cleaning up after our meals. Cosette washed plates and Jackson wiped down the table after breakfast. Jobs were not perfect and water was spilled, but I didn't really care today. They mostly think chores are fun.

Here I decided they could make their own PB&J's for lunch. Definitely made a bigger mess, took 15 minutes instead of 2 minutes, but they did the whole job, from getting everything out to cleaning up. Kinda fun to see what a 2 and 4 year old can accomplish if you let them take forever and do it imperfectly. Admittedly, most days we just don't have time for these drawn out chore games, but today we did.

Deciding how much bread they need. Cosette says she needs 3 pieces and Jackson corrects her and gives her only 2.

These kid knives are great, no sharper than a spoon.

Something tells me this person doesn't respect knives.

Careful, careful. Get it just right.

One is making the perfect PB&J and one is just snacking and giggling. Hmmm

Line up the bread

Cut it straight

Prefers not to cut it, or line it up.

All done, with peanut butter up the nose.

Just a few more quick chomps

And licks

She did it!

Sandwiches need milks

Bites
